Lullaby (words & music by Heather Lewin)

Hush babe, don't you worry
You're here in my arms
Nothing can harm you
Hush now, now need to hurry
You're home and safe and warm

(There should be verses here telling a story
But every time I try to write down what I'm feeling in words
My eyes start to cry and my body mourns in the deepest depths of my soul
I mourn for my children who feel burdened with healing the wounds of the world
I mourn for my grandchildren, as yet unaware that they exist in a world of conflict, death, ego, and struggle
I mourn for the earth and for all of the living creatures needlessly dying

We're all enduring this daily overwhelming persistent collective sadness.
I often feel drained, empty and overwhelmed

So I do the only thing I know how to do

I smile and pretend that the world is kind, and gentle, and good
I hold onto hope that we can learn to respect each other and the earth
I wake up every day hopeful that things will get better

I make happy songs to ease suffering
I write tunes for people to dance to
I teach them how to harness their feelings into music
And for a brief moment, I give their troubled thoughts a rest)

Hush babe, don't you worry
You're here in my arms
Nothing can harm you
Hush now, now need to hurry
You're home and safe and warm
